Chris Bear named NJCAA Gold Glove Shortstop
Northern Essex Community College sophomore shortstop Chris Bear (Boston) has been named the NJCAA ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove shortstop as the nation’s top defensive player at their respective position. The Gold Glove team was announced today by the NJCAA Baseball Committee.
Haverhill, MA (June 19, 2024) – Northern Essex Community College sophomore shortstop Chris Bear (Boston) has been named the NJCAA ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove shortstop as the nation's top defensive player at their respective position. The Gold Glove team was announced today by the NJCAA Baseball Committee.
The award marks back to back years in which a member of the Knights baseball program has picked up a Gold Glove award as Jairo Vazquez received the award last year as a pitcher.
Bear, who nine days ago was named a First Team All-American was also the Region 21 Player of the Year as selected by the regional coaches at the conclusions of the regular season had a fielding percentage of .957 as he recorded 77 assists with 33 put outs in 115 total chances. He committed just five errors over the course of the season. He also was involved in turning eight double plays on the season.
In the fall, Bear will continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Maine, a member of the America East Conference at the NCAA Division I level.
