Abbatessa and Uviedo Place on Day One of NJCAA Track Nationals
The Northern Essex Community College women’s track and field team got off to a strong start on Thursday afternoon on day one of the NJCAA National Championships
Utica, NY (May 8, 2025) – The Northern Essex Community College women's track and field team got off to a strong start on Thursday afternoon on day one of the NJCAA National Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College.
Both Maci Abbatessa (Danvers) and Janelis Uviedo (Nashua, NH) recorded personal best performances in their events on Thursday, placing them among the top eight performers in their championship event.
In the hammer throw Abbatessa, recorded a season best throw of 32.34 meters in her second throw of the preliminary round which would advance her to the nine athlete final and stand up to place eighth in the event and give the Knights one point in the team standings.
On the runway, Uviedo, hop, skipped and jumped her way to 9.87 meters on her second attempt in the triple jump as that mark would advance her to the finals and stand up for a seventh place finish and give the Knights two points in the team totals.
For their point scoring performances, both individuals were recognized as All-Americans by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
With three points after day one, NECC currently sits in 13th place overall.
One the men's side, the 4x100 relay team placed 13th in the preliminary round with a time of 46.17. NECC was seeded 16th going into the competition.
