Kelleher, Castillo power #7 Baseball past Quinsigamond in Series Opener
The #7 Northern Essex Community College baseball team remained unbeaten in region play as they defeated Quinsigamond 10-4 on Thursday afternoon in the first game of the season series with the Wyverns.
Haverhill, MA (April 23, 2026) – The #7 Northern Essex Community College baseball team remained unbeaten in region play as they defeated Quinsigamond 10-4 on Thursday afternoon in the first game of the season series with the Wyverns. NECC improves to 20-7 overall and 12-0 in region play.
Following a slow start in which he allowed Quinsigamond to plate two first inning runs, Jack Kelleher (Haverhill) rebounded to strike out 13 batters over eight innings of work, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, while issuing one walk.
After trailing 3-0 heading to the bottom of the second the Knights got on the board with two outs on a failed picked off attempt, before erupts for six runs in the fourth inning to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Kade Masselli (New Gloucester, ME) led off the fourth with a double and would score on a sacrifice fly from Brooks Keefe (Marblehead), before the Knights plated five runs with two outs in the inning. David Castillo (Boston) crushed a two out, three run home run over the pole down the left field line to put the Knights up 5-3, before Owen Derocher (Berkley) ripped a double to left center to score two more runs before QCC could get out of the inning.
For the game, NECC outhit the visitors 12-9, with Castillo, Derocher, Masselli and Jake Yngber (Miami, FL) each recording two hits apiece.
NECC heads to Worcester on Saturday for a double header at Quinsigamond to conclude the three game series with the Wyverns starting at 12:00pm
