Track and Field Teams Ranked Nationally
Haverhill, MA (April 4th, 2019) – Through the first two weeks of the track and field season, both the men’s and women’s track and field teams have been ranked nationally by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the weekly rankings released on Wednesday.
Haverhill, MA (April 4th, 2019) – Through the first two weeks of the track and field season, both the men's and women's track and field teams have been ranked nationally by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the weekly rankings released on Wednesday.
The women's team is checking in ranked 16th nationally with a ranking index of 54.29 based on individual team performances. Highlighting the early season success for the Knights has been the national qualifying performance by Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, NH) in the 5000 meters where she currently ranks fourth in the country. This past Saturday Mullins ran a time 20:34 at the UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Invitational.
The men's team breaks into the rankings at the number 22 spot, with a ranking index of 8.00. The teams early season performances have been highlighted by the work of Emil Rosario (Methuen, MA) in the mid-distance events and Jose Tavares (Salem, MA) in the sprints.
The track teams return to action this weekend and will split between a pair of events. On Friday the team will compete at the Regis Pride Invitational with select athletes also participating Saturday at Fitchburg State.
Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
