Abbatessa Shatters School Record in Hammer Throw to Highlight Jim Sheehan Invitational

Fitchburg, MA (April 5, 2026) – The Northern Essex Community College track and field competed at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchuburg State on Saturday afternoon and saw several strong early season performances.

Maci Abbatessa (Danvers) had a solid day in the throws and she started by breaking the college's 16-year-old hammer throw record with a toss of 34.35 meters (112' 8") which broke the record of Katelyn Wallace 111' set back in 2010. In addition, she had a throw of 31.69 in the discus which qualified her for her third event in the national meet next month.

Janelis Uviedo (Nashua, NH) also picked up a national qualifying performance in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.64.

On the men's side Aivyn Privetera (Haverhill) ran a 17.29 in the 110 hurdles and Teriq Goodman (Worcester) sprinted a 23.96 finish in the 200.

In the field events Milton Garcia (Methuen) hit 5.42 meters in the long jump while Derick Pierre Paul (Lawrence) cleared 1.72 in the high jump.

NECC will return to the track next Saturday for the Ed Daniels Classic at Southern New Hampshire University.
